səlilwət / Burrard Inlet

səlilwət / Burrard Inlet is a complex and challenging environment to work in, with a lot of jurisdictions and overlapping interests in the nearshore environment. SeaChange has been working in close partnership with Tsleil-Waututh Nation to explore and plan nearshore restoration projects in the Inlet. As expected, much of our work in the past year has been spent on communication with coastal authorities – particularly local governments and the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, as well as other potential partners, to determine which of our priority sites for restoration are feasible in the short term. Following these discussions, we’re currently planning the following:

–          Marine riparian restoration in Stanley Park in partnership with the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation

–          Marine riparian restoration in Port Moody in partnership with the City of Port Moody

–          Removal of creosote pilings and other debris in eelgrass and forage fish areas of Indian Arm with various partnerships under discussion

Potential restoration projects in other areas are currently under discussion with the relevant authorities.
